  1. To train the ability to beat defenders 1vs1.

ORGANISATION:
Mark out cones in an area as shown above (20x12yrd square).  Split the players into 2 groups, an attacking and defending group.
 
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. D1 passes the ball into A1 to start the exercise.
  2. D1 then pressure the ball immediately after the pass.
  3. A1 then attempts to dribble around D1 and get over the end line to score.
  4. A1 performs moves and a change of pace to beat the defender.
  5. A1 then accelerates to the end line to score 1 pt.
  6. D1 attempts to tackle or kick the ball out of play.

After each turn the defender and attacker switch groups to ensure that everyone attacks and defends.

 
SCORING:

The players individually earn a point by dribbling over the end line.  The defenders do not score points.

 
KEY COACHING POINTS:
  1. Positive first touch.
  2. Head up to access the defenders position.
  3. Change of pace to beat the defender.
 
PROGRESSIONS:
  1. The defenders can be passive to start and shadow the attackers to give them confidence before going live (full pressure).
 
VARIATIONS:
  1. If the defender wins the ball they can dribble over the attackers end line to score a point.
 
NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS:
Encourage players to try new things.  Keep the game moving and continous to maintain the players attention.
