Drill Objective(s)soccer warm ups and warm up routines
  1. Prepare players for a game by increasing core body temperature.
  2. Team work and Support (Possession).
  3. Pace of Play and support.

  • Age:                    12-Adult soccer warm ups and warm up                          
  • No Players:        16+
  • Difficulty:            Medium
  • Area/Time:         60x40yrds  (10-15mins)

ORGANISATION:
60x40yrd grid.  Size should be altered depending on the ability of the players.  Play 7vs7 (+2Gks).   Balls should be placed at the side of the grid to keep the game going quickly when the ball is knocked out.  Kick-ins on the sides when the ball is played out of bounds.

INSTRUCTIONS:

The 7 outfield players on each team attempt to maintain possession of the ball for 7 passes and then play the ball into the goalkeepers hands for point.  First team to score 5 points is the winner.  After a point the goalkeeper feeds the ball to the team which was scored on. In the example above:

  1. A1 passes to A2 after 7 successful consecutive passes.
  2. A2 receives the ball and chips the ball up into the nearest GK which is GK1.  He/she, could also have played a long aerial pass into GK2.
SCORING:
None.
KEY COACHING POINTS:
  1. Cushion the ball on impact.
  2. Good aerial control technique.
  3. Get in line with the ball when receiving it, move your feet.
 
PROGRESSIONS:
  1. None.
 
VARIATIONS:
  1. No passes over 10yrds.
  2. Only passes over 10yrds.
  3. No balls over head height.
  4. 2 touch.
  5. 1 touch.
  6. Assign each GK to a team.  The GK's can intercept passes to each other.
