Diagram 1
ORGANISATION:
Set-up a 30x30yrd grid, with a 10x10yrd square in the centre of the playing area. 2 teams with 6 players in each team in different coloured pinnies.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Two teams compete in the playing area and attempt to score by playing a pass on the ground through any 2 sides of the centre square.
6vs6, however, the team in possession has 6 players in the outer square to maintain possession of the ball. The defending team drop 2 players into the centre square where they can attampt to block/intercept through balls and attempts to pass through the centre square. Making it 6vs4 + (2 blockers).
If the attacking team looses possession of the ball the attackers become the defenders.
When transitioning to defence the new defending team drops 2 players into the centre square.
No attacking players are allowed in the centre square.
If the ball is intercepted by a defender in the centre square they simply dribble out of the centre area and pass to teamate in the larger square and the teams change roles (i.e. attacking and defending).
A violation of any of these rules by a player results in their team becoming the defenders.
Example from the Diagram above:
A1 passes to A2 to maintain possession.
A2 looks up and sees two possible passing options to score a point. In option 2, straight through the back of the square to A3.
A2 can also score by passing the ball diagonally through the side of the square to A4.
SCORING:
The attacking team plays passes through (across) any 2 sides of the centre square to earn a point.
KEY COACHING POINTS:

Other key coaching points of basic possession principles of play.
PROGRESSIONS:

VARIATIONS:
Diagram 2
The attacking team scores a point by having a player check into the centre square, receive a pass and then successfully play it back out to another attacking player.
To increase the difficulty the checking player can be asked to play the ball out of the centre square using 1 touch.
NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS:
This game should help increase a teams ability to look up for specific penetrating passes. Develops intelligent and pro-active players. It is also an interesting variation to the regular standard possession drills and practices teams often perform and will mentally engage your players.
