Drill Objective(s)soccer warm ups and warm up routines

  2. Active warm up or muscles.

  • Age:                    12-Adult soccer warm ups and warm up

Diagram 1

ORGANISATION:
20x20yrd grid.   Each player plays individually.  3 groups are set up of approximately 3-4 players.  Those players form walls and link arms to stay connected.  One player starts free and will be chased.
INSTRUCTIONS:

Players are attempting to avoid being tagged.  One player starts out in open play as selected by the coach (indicated in white above, but only for reference purposes).  Another player (The chaser, Indicated in white in the diagram) attempts to tag the free player (the runner).  The free player can hide behind the walls to avoid the chaser.  the free player can also join the end of a wall.  If he/she does this, it bumps off the player at the other end of the wall which he/she joined.  The player bumped off will now be the one being chased by the chaser.
If the chaser manages to tag the player running free they then become the free player and the former free player becomes the one being chased. In diagram 1 for example:

  1. R1 sprints away to avoid A1 and joins the end of a wall.
  2. A1 (Colored white for ease of reference only) chases R1 until he connects with the wall where he becomes safe.
  3. R2 is bounced off the other end of the wall and sprints away to avoid A1.
  4. A1 now chases R2.  If R2 is tagged he would become the defender and A1 the runner.
SCORING:
None.
KEY COACHING POINTS:
  1. Quickness and Agility.
  2. During the rest periods players are encouraged to do their own stretches or even static stretches of the muscles groups being warmed at that time.
  3. Players should be drinking water during warm ups also.

PROGRESSIONS:
  1. Have 2 chasers and 2 free players at the start.

VARIATIONS:
  1. Add more player walls.
  2. Cant be tagged back after a player tags you (i.e. you cannot tag a player if they just tagged you).

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS:
None.
