 Diagram 1.
ORGANISATION:
The central area of the field is marked off using cones to approximately 40x20 yrds. The attacking team (yellow) players with 6 outfield players and the defending team (red) defends with 5 players and a goal keeper. The team being coached is the yellow team.
START POSITION(S):

The goal keeper starts with the ball and the two strikers from the yellow team are either outside the 18 yrd area or they each have a foot on the yellow cone at the eadge of the 18 yrd area. The GK players rotates between playing the ball to either defender. When the ball goes out of play the game restarts from the GK.

SCORING:
The attacking team (yellow) score by scoring in the full size goal. The defending team score a goal by dribbling the ball over the half way line or by making 5 consecutive passes without the other team touching the ball.
KEY COACHING POINTS:
  1. When Pressuring - Nearest player to the ball applies immediate pressure.
  2. Communication and Organisation.
  3. Close down as the ball travels.
  4. Can I intercept?
  5. Get behind the ball.
  6. Team stays compact.
  7. Track forward runs.
  8. Individual defending technique (slow on approach, sideways on, show outside)
  1. Once regained possession - Can we attack quickly?
  2. Be positive and attack space.
  3. Early decisions to dribble or shoot.
  4. Players must make attacking runs in advance of the ball.
  5. Quick combination play to create opportunities.

PROGRESSIONS:
  1. Add an extra attacker or defender depending on how the teams are doing.
  2. Increase to the full width of the field.

VARIATIONS:
  1. Vary the start positions by allowing the goal keeper to play balls out into the midfield. Usually here, allow the receiving player to take a touch before the yellow team is live.

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS:
High Pressure is key. Force a mistake from the defense by being early to pressure the ball and organised. When the ball is retreived, attack quickly and throw players forward in support.
