| ORGANISATION: |
|
Mark out an area of full pitch width and approximately 60yrds long (i.e. 10-15 yrds over the half way line). Place 2 gate goals on the 60yrd line. Play 9vs7 + GK. One of the nine attacking players has to hold and be the server (i.e. cannot go forward much). The phase can also be done with the back 3 A1, A2, A3 all holding and just supporting, not going forward to attack. 7 defenders attempt to play the ball out through one of the target gates within 5 passes.
|
| |
| INSTRUCTIONS: |
|
The start position is D4 simulates loosing the ball in midfield by passing to A4. This creates a transition from defense to attack created from winning the ball in the midfield. The attacking team the attempt to expand and go on the attack.
- D4 pass to A1 for the start position to simulate a mishit pass which initiates the attacking phase.
- A1 then looks to play away from pressure to other attackers. A1 assesses several potential passing channels and combinations (numbers 2-5).
|
| |
| SCORING: |
|
2 teams compete and attempt to score. The attacking team scores by scoring on the goal. The defending team scoreing in the gate goals.
|
| |
| KEY COACHING POINTS: |
- Wide players immediately transition to wide positions on their team winning the ball back.
- Midfields attempt to create space to support and combine with the midfielder winning the ball. Create passing triangles, refer to diagram 2.
- Forwards and midfielders make supporting runs to create space to make themselves available.
- Encourage passing triangles to be formed for support.
- Encourage quick passing and movement.
- Get the ball out wide and away from where the ball was won back if it is congested in the midfield.
- Is there an opportunity to counter attack with the defending team out of position?
- Can we get the ball wide to create numbers up scenarios on the wings.
- Look to commit defenders and play 1-2 combinations or take them on 1vs1.
- Variety and unpredictability in attacks to unbalance the defense.
- Long balls, through balls, combinations, overlaps and 1-2’s.

 |
| PROGRESSIONS: |
- Allow all the attacking players to go forward (i.e. no holding/supporting players)
- Add another defender to create a back 4, and one more mid to create a 3 man midfield.
|
| VARIATIONS: |
- 1. Vary the position of the starting position. Wide midfield as well as central.
|
| |
| NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS: |
| Encourage the players to find the space by playing with their heads up. Don’t force the play centrally if there is not space centrally. Be patient in the build up phase unless there is a good counter attacking opportunity. Look for quick transition and player movement wide instantly after winning the ball. |
