Diagram 1

ORGANISATION:
44x30yrd field.  2 teams of 4-8, but this can be varied again to match the ability and age of the players.  Teams must be equal in numbers.  2 goals (3/4 or full size).  No goal keepers (This however can be a progression).
INSTRUCTIONS:

Teams work to keep possession of the ball by throwing and catching it. If the ball is dropped to the ground it is handed to the other team.  The defending team can block with their hands or intercept with a catch.  The team with possession attempts to work the ball up field to a position where they can set a player up for a header or volley into the goal.   When players have possession of the ball in their hands they can only pivot (as in basketball) and not run with the ball.

  1. In the above diagram player A1 set up A2 using a throw.
  2. A2 heads the ball past the red teams goal keeper for a goal.

SCORING:
First team to 3 goals.  Or 2 points can be awarded for a head goal and 1 for a volley.
KEY COACHING POINTS:
  1. Principles of possession should be applied to ensure the team is able to keep posession.
  2. Emphasize good team work and support.
  3. Corrent volleying technique.
  4. Correct Heading technique.

PROGRESSIONS:
  1. None.

VARIATIONS:
  1. No passes over 10yrds.
  2. Only passes over 10yrds.
  3. No balls over head height.
  4. Volley passing (i.e. kicking the ball out of the hands when passing).
  5. Include goal permenant goal keepers.

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS:
None.
