Drill Objective(s)soccer warm ups and warm up routines
  1. Prepare players by increasing core body temperature.
  2. Active warm up stretches to prepare muscles for activity.
  3. Develop players touch and co-ordination.

  • Area/Time:         20x10yrds  (10-30mins)

ORGANISATION:
Set up a soccer tennis court (20 wide x15 deep yrds), adapt depending on the number of players on the court at one time.  Also the size should be varied based on skill level and the type of game being played.  there are a number of different ways to set up this exercise. Use a net if available, however a line of cones will surfice and rules on what height the imaginary net  is at.
INSTRUCTIONS:

2 teams play against each other.  2vs2 - 8vs8 are good numbers to work with.  Rotate the positions as in volleyball so all players get an opportunity to work at the front and back of the court.  Play soccer tennis  with the following rules:
1) Bounce volleys to start the rally (Server bounce s the ball once and then plays ball over the net).
2) No volleys on returning serves.
3) 3 touch maximum on each possession.

SCORING:
None.
KEY COACHING POINTS:
  1. During the rest periods players are encouraged to do their own stretches or even static stretches of the muscles groups being warmed at that time.  
  2. Players should be drinking water during warm ups also.
 
PROGRESSIONS:
  1. None.
 
VARIATIONS:
  1. No bounces (Advanced Players)
  2. Different size teams.
  3. Only 2 touch between sides.
  4. Mantatory 3 touch on each side.
  5. Throw the ball over the net, if the ball bounces or is not caught the throwing team gets a point.
  6. Play with a size 3 ball.
