Diagram 1

ORGANISATION:
12 cones are set up in the shape of a circular clock.  Approx. 25yrds x 25yrds.  Each cone represents a point on a clock face (i.e. 1-12).  4 groups of players are placed at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock.  These groups are usually up to 4 players maximum.

INSTRUCTIONS:

The cone which the group stands behind represents 6 o'clock.  The cone therefore directly opposite would be 12 o'clock, etc.  The coach calls out a number and the first player in each group dribbles out and around the number (time) which was called out and back to the start cone (i.e. 6 o'clock).  The last person back to their start cone (with the ball under control) performs 5 push ups.In the example above:

  1. Y1 from team A dribbles on the coaches command of "Cone 5!" (i.e. the other teams dribble around there number 5 relative to where they start).
  2. Y1 makes the turn and dribbles around cone 5.
  3. Y1 dribbles back to his starting cone and passes the ball to Y2 to await the next coaches command.  If Y1 is the last players back to the start cone he/she does 5 push ups.
SCORING:
None.
KEY COACHING POINTS:
  1. Good dribbling technique and control when running and performing the activties.
  2. Good turn technique.
  3. Agility and acceleration technique in the turns.
  4. Mental focus to react to commands.

PROGRESSIONS:
  1. The coach calls out multiple numbers (times) and the players dribble around numberous cones.
  2. The coach can change his mind and shouts out another time before the player reaches the time originally called.  requiring the players to turn.
  3. Require the players to only use specific turns as dictated by the coach.

VARIATIONS:
  1. Perfom without a ball and this become a speed and agility exercise.
  2. Have different start positions (times).
  3. 2 players enter the field for each turn.
  4. The coach calls out 2 numbers, the first player goes to the first number called and the second to the second number called.

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS:
None.
