Bruised heels occus when the protection of the heel is not adequate. The heel bone (Calcaneus) area is normally protected by an area of fat. However this fat can be pushed up the side of the heel leaving the heel less protected.
|Signs and Symptoms|
Brusied heels can be caused by overuse or by repeated bounding (physical activity) on a hard surface. Training indoor or on turf fields can cause brusied heels.
Brusied heels require rest. Early and prolonged rest after diagnosis will result in a good recovery. Avoid activities that involve being on your feet for extended periods. If you need to you should upgrade your footware to improve protection to the heel area.
