Develop the ability to drive into spaces with the ball.
Develop decision making on when and where to dribble.
Diagram 1. Set-Up Arrangement
30x50 yrd grid with 2 end zones approx. 5 yrds deep.
3 teams (Red x4, Yellow x4, Blue x4).
Place randomly cones (8) around the playing area.
The players dribble around the playing area and approach one of the cones placed around the grid taking the cone on (cone acts as a passive defender). Players accelerate away from the cone after the move and find another cone to attack.
Players should perform feint moves on the cones (i.e. side steps, step overs, scissors, etc).
Players should change directions as they move around the playing area using turns (i.e. drag backs, outside hooks, etc).
Progression - half the players with ball and half without. The players without a ball act as passive defenders for the other players to take on.
Dribble with head up, glancing down at the ball on contact if needed.
Relaxed foot dribbling mainly with the outside of the foot.
Acceleration after a move.
Slow into a move, fast out of a move.
SSG - Coach when and where to dribble. Risk vs Reward. 1vs1 close to the opponents goal so there is no immediate counter attacking threat.
SSG - Coach how players make runs off the ball to generate space for other players to dribble.
SSG - Coach what type of dribbling technical (i.e. dribbling or running with the ball) determined by the space available.
Move players around one by one.
Players must pass to a certain colour.
Add defenders to try and steal possession.
Defenders make 8 consecutive passes after regaining possession they become the attacking team.
