Diagram 1. Set-Up Arrangement
Set-Up
- Using a 40x20yrd grid arrange a 4vs4 with 2 neutral the middle of the grid.
Instructions
- The 4 attackers attempt to keep possession of the ball by passing amongst themselves and the 2 neutral players (shown in blue above).
- The 2 neutral players (yellow) always play with the team that has the ball.
- The game is continuous with no pauses.
- If the defenders intercept a pass, they then team up with the neutral players to keep possession.
- If the ball goes out of play the first team to chase after it and touch the ball gets to play it back in. Kick-ins from the sides.
Scoring
- Identify a specific number of consecutive passes the attacking team needs to complete before a point is scored (for example; 7).
Coaching Points
- Keep the ball speed high (pass the ball quickly with limited touches).
- Players without the ball must move to create good passing angles.
- Players should make good decisions about when to change the point of attack to keep possession.
- Limited touches on the ball.
Progressions
- 2 touch maximum by the attacking players.
Variations
- Limit the number touches of the neutral players to 1 or 2 touch.
- Every time a member of the attacking team has the ball they must play it to a neutral player before playing it to one of their team-mates.
- Adjust the size of the grid.
