Diagram 1. Set-Up Arrangement
Set-Up
- 45x45 yrd grid with 4 gate goals in the corners created using training poles or flags/tall cones.
- 6vs6 up to 8vs8 (Increase the playing area as needed).
- Play 5 minute mini games (x3 depending on the desired fitness level/type and intensity).
- 1 minute break in between.
Instructions
- Players attempt to maintain possession using their team-mates.
- Play 2 touch (dependent on ability, 3 is also fine)
- Goals are scored by passing the ball through a corner gate goal to another team member of the attacking team and is then successfully passed to a team-mate.
Scoring
- 1 goal = Passing the ball through a corner gate goal to another team member of the attacking team and is then successfully passed to a team-mate.
Coaching Points
- Provide good supporting angles when in possession.
- 3rd man runs to support the player receiving the pass through the gate goal.
- Switch play to exploit space to allow space for the 3-man passing combination.
- Limited touches to facilitate fast play.
- Awareness to recognize space to attack a gate.
Progressions
- Require a specific combination (Link-Up play) before a goal can be scored (1-2, Take-Over, overlap).
- Pass through the gate goal must be followed by a one touch pass to the third man runner. Refer to Diagram 2.

Diagram 2. Progression
Variations
- 8vs8 on a 50x50 yrd playing grid.
- Use a neutral player to play with the attacking team to help maintain possession for longer periods.
